yoga

Alerry found yoga in an in outdoor classroom in 1998, while on assignment in the Caribbean as a development and disaster relief volunteer. From the very start, she knew yoga was her path. A former elite level gymnast, Alerry immediately connected with yoga’s physicality. Yoga’s ancient teachings of mindfulness and the wisdom of its guiding philosophies illuminated a new way of being in her body and in the world that was transformative. In 2002, she completed a 300-hour teacher training through the Yoga Association of Alberta. In 2005, she also completed her 2200 Advanced training in Massage Therapy with the Massage Therapy College of Manitoba.

Alerry’s 14 years of teaching experience and extensive training in yoga and bodywork brings a therapeutic experience for beginners and seasoned yoga students alike. Her down-to-earth teaching inspires students to take their practice deeper, guided with gentleness, precision, support and mindfulness. Individual attention and modifications for each student’s abilities are key to her teaching.

Alerry has since studied Iyengar, Kripalu, Vinyasa and Yin Yoga in Canada, India, Indonesia, Mexico and the United States. She has a great love for therapeutics, and has assisted yoga classes for CancerCare Manitoba. She honours the wisdom of her guiding teachers: Father Joe Pereira, Aadil Palkhivala, Val Paape, Maya Margo Balog, Beth McCann, Sarah Powers, Stephanie Quirk, and Gurmukh.

Yoga practice in nature is Alerry’s special love. For 12 years, she has co-led YogaCanoe and Women’s Wilderness retreats in Manitoba and Ontario, blending her passion for the wilderness with creating opportunities for growth for students outside of the usual confines of the studio. These successful retreats have been featured in the Winnipeg Free Press, Global TV and the New York Times.
